Political Manifesto

Indian politics is corrupt like any politics in the world. The politics tends to be corrupt because of its basic nature. Rightly said by Lord Acton that "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men." Is there a remedy to this? Probably we will never be able to cure it completely but we can control it with strong system level rules to an extent.

The following changes in the political system will control this malaise to a large extent.
  • Age Limit: Put strict age limit till which a person can run for election and hold the post. It's pity that we ask our scientist, academician and intellectuals to sit at home after 70 but let the frail old politicians to run the country. Many of them cannot even take care of themselves properly. So what are the rules:
    • No one can run for election after the age of 70. However we still should figure out a way to engage these people in a meaningful way in society because the society should benefit from their vast experience.
    • If a person wins election and attains the age of 70 mid way, he/should should vacate all the posts held apart from the member of legislative body.
  • Decoupling of bureaucracy and politics: The politician are chosen by people so it makes sense to retain the control over bureaucracy by politicians to certain extent. However the care should be taken that politicians do not use bureaucracy to settle political scores. The biggest weapon that politicians use to control bureaucrats is transfer and that has to be controlled to a large extent. So what are the rules:
    • There should be a strict rule of transfer not happening before two years for any position for any one in State or Central Government offices. If some one is transferred within a period of two years a proper explanation should be posted on the government web site. (No news paper ad please.)
  • Statues using government money allowed only posthumously.
  • Naming of any thing allowed only posthumously. Complete ban on the change of names as we waste time in such political gimmicks.
